September 7th Meditation: Expanding Our Lives Through Top-line Activities

Monday, September 7th

As our recovery progresses, many of us find it gets easier to abstain from the destructive behaviors we identify as our “bottom lines.” This change may enable us to revisit the dreams and aspirations we had before our compulsion took hold. We begin to see that stopping the destructive behavior is just the beginning: we further our recovery by replacing these behaviors with healthy new activities.

In creating our Sexual Recovery Plan, we identify people, places, and activities we would like to bring into our lives to fill the time and mental space we once devoted to acting out.

We may have lost touch with positive activities from our past. We can make a list of them as they surface, adding them to our “third column” or “top-line behaviors.” The slogan Easy does it can be a helpful guide for writing this section of the Sexual Recovery Plan.

We try to be realistic by adding enjoyable things we are willing to do, not just things we think we should do. We decide what works for us at the time, knowing we can adjust the list as our SRP evolves.

We will rekindle hobbies and interests we had lost to our compulsion and discover new ones.
