September 15th Meditation: Falling Off the Pink Cloud

Tuesday, September 15th

I enjoyed meetings, did service, and met new friends. But I soon fell off my plan and was ashamed to show up again.

We join SCA because we seek recovery from sexual compulsion. By attending meetings and using the Tools, we hope to experience healing through spiritual growth that promotes behavioral changes.

Some of us may feel confident and in control during early recovery. We find a sponsor, start working the Steps, and enjoy being part of the fellowship. We might feel that we are on the “pink cloud” of euphoria and relief that sometimes occurs as we develop some sobriety.

Recovery, however, is seldom linear. Something happens — a relationship may go wrong, or we might face financial worries, health problems, or family issues. For whatever reason, we stop making progress. We may get annoyed or bored at meetings or feel burned out by service commitments. Worse yet, we may be tempted to soothe these frustrations by revisiting our acting out behaviors.

By recalling the slogan Let go and let God, we can learn to try not to control our recovery. We share our concerns at meetings and talk with a sponsor or other sober members. We can remind ourselves to Take it easy — to keep coming back and not to force our recovery.

I’m sober today: this is enough.
