I am willing to do whatever is necessary to maintain my sobriety.
We use the term “sobriety” to describe adherence to our Sexual Recovery Plan. Members are encouraged to develop their SRP and to define sexual sobriety for themselves. The purpose of our plan is not to make our sex lives more rigid but to free them from harmful behaviors.
Sexual compulsion is a spiritual problem that requires a spiritual solution. Some of us realize we need to have a spiritual awakening if we want to recover what we have lost as active sexual compulsives. This awakening is one of the program’s promises, provided that we work the Steps and improve our relationship with a Higher Power of our understanding. Our ability to do, feel, and believe things previously impossible for us is a sure sign that our spiritual life is expanding.
By using recovery tools, we can begin to trust our Higher Power to help us take the next right action. Living in recovery transforms our lives from a set of separate parts into an integrated whole.
“Continued sobriety through working the program has filled my life with promise.”
We will find it progressively easier to stay on our Sexual Recovery Plan and discover that sexual sobriety is more rewarding than compulsive sex.
