June 27th Meditation: Quiet Time

Saturday, June 27th

Speaking is the essence of prayer. Listening is the essence of meditation.

There is no “correct way” to use the tools of prayer and meditation. Just as we decide what our bottom-line behaviors are, we can also choose how to practice prayer and meditation.

Some of us may establish a routine: perhaps we meditate at a specific time of day or week or pray each morning. Others may pray when a thorny issue or crisis erupts or adopt a more free-form approach.

We may seek solitude, a different experience than the self-imposed isolation some of us have often endured. For those who have experienced some spiritual progress, spending time alone can feel affirming.

Before we began to work our recovery, we might have filled those “alone” moments with feelings of compulsion or shame, punctuated by harsh self-judgments and low self-esteem. But now, we may develop trust in our Higher Power, enabling us to let go of past harms and live in the present. Prayer affirms connection with our Higher Power. Being still and listening affirms self-love. By loving ourselves, we can learn to love others.

“My Higher Power has guided me to learn how to listen to my intuitive guidance. I feel whole, and my life has expanded in ways I never thought possible.”

We will experience a rebirth of our relationship with our Higher Power, ourselves, and with others.
