April 19th Meditation: Expanding Our Vision

Saturday, April 19th

Before recovery, I equated sobriety with emptiness and boredom.

Many of us found that — no matter how much sex we had — we felt a growing emptiness. We created barriers that separated us from our family, friends, and community. Most importantly, we may have rejected any feeling of self-worth. In short, we had orchestrated our abandonment.

As we work on our recovery, we may learn that living in sobriety is more than stopping certain behaviors; it is a way to change our priorities and outlook on life.

Using SCA’s Steps and Tools, we can find new perspectives and open ourselves to spiritual growth. As our lives begin to improve, we learn to entrust outcomes to our Higher Power and focus on healing and recovery.

One thing we notice is that our world expands when we are “on the beam” of recovery. It narrows when we are not. Before recovery, we suffered from tunnel vision, or even no vision at all, only fantasies and nightmares. The more we practice connecting with others, the more we improve and expand our conscious contact with our Higher Power.

“I have learned how to follow my intuitive guidance with my Higher Power’s help.”

My life has expanded in ways I could not have imagined possible.
