April 15th Meditation: Principles Before Personalities

Tuesday, April 15th

Our common welfare should come first; personal recovery depends upon SCA unity.

While recovery works differently for everyone, many of us begin to build new coping skills instead of falling back into the ways of our compulsion.  We learn to trust that, over time, the process of recovery will restore our integrity, dignity, and clarity. We often experience a rebirth of our relationship with ourselves, others, and our Higher Power. This newfound freedom from the burdens of our ego allows us more room to accept a new sense of purpose in our lives.

“The people in my life and the SCA principles helped me overcome my doubts and fears.”

Members often say that SCA is a “we” program. This concept emphasizes that recovery in SCA is a collective undertaking. We rely on mutual support for our personal recovery.

We understand that no one person has all the answers on any given issue or a monopoly on wisdom. We learn to let go of control, get out of the way of others’ recovery, and trust the program and its spiritual principles. By doing so, we preserve our common welfare and help the fellowship to grow.

“Principles before personalities” is fundamental to recovery in SCA.
