Our goal is to integrate healthy sexuality into our lives and become the people we have longed to become — living useful lives, happy, joyous, and free.
Many of us used sex to find the excitement, validation, and connection we thought would make us happy. Occasionally, we would open our eyes and see the wreckage that was our life. However, we might have become fatalistic about our compulsion: we told ourselves we were too far gone to change.
From time to time, we may have found joy in acting out or perhaps told ourselves we were joyful. We felt free to damage ourselves or others to maintain that high.
The SCA program enables us to change our behaviors and outlook. We acknowledge our powerlessness, unmanageability, and insanity. We talk about our lives in meetings and listen to others share their experience, strength, and hope. We begin to use other recovery tools, including the Steps, which give us an insight into spiritual change. It is reassuring to know that we are not alone and that others have been through similar experiences.
We learn how to take care of ourselves as adults, building self-respect and self-worth. We find the courage to turn toward a new way of living.
I am patient and serene, for I have the rest of my life in which to grow.
