We had created barriers that separated us from our family, friends, and community.
Expecting or demanding perfection from ourselves and others contributes to the resentments that have burdened us. Resentments often create a sense of entitlement. In this entitled state of mind, with our sexual compulsion activated, we may have caused harm to others.
Steps Eight and Nine tell us we should attempt to make things right with others wherever possible. We have a spiritual malady that will continue to thrive if we do not remove the fuel it feeds on.
Making amends is a process of change. The entire process of recovery allows us to be open to change. Many members may also experience restored relationships and a release of shame under the care of their Higher Power.
Taking responsibility depends upon our willingness to change our behaviors as we grow spiritually. When we do so, our lives expand, we become more engaged, and we continue to change for the better.
“I have learned to love myself and to care for others. In doing so, I am free of the shame that used to control my life. My living amends include doing service in SCA.”
Having reconciled with my Higher Power and with others, I am free of guilt and remorse.
