July 17th Meditation: Living in the Solution

Wednesday, July 17th

I am graced with a daily reprieve as long as I work my recovery and contribute rather than take.

Living in recovery is: simply living. By working our recovery, we become able to meet our needs and expand our world. We rely on mutual support and the collective experience of other sexual compulsives in our journey. We get this support by attending meetings, working the Steps, participating in sponsorship, doing service, and using other recovery tools. By utilizing that support, as uncomfortable as it may initially seem and as resistant as we may first feel, we find the strength to start on the road of recovery.

Many of us joined SCA feeling damaged by our need to repress or escape feelings of anxiety, shame, and low self-esteem. As we recover from sexual compulsion, we experience spiritual changes that enable us to express our thoughts and feelings honestly, without fear or shame.

When we begin to feel periods of serenity, we can acknowledge that our recovery is progressing. We lose the need to obsess about sex or romance as we develop our healthy sexuality. As we continue Step work, we become more transparent channels of our Higher Power’s will.

My sobriety gives me tools to let go of the past and live in the present.
