February 28th Meditation: Living in the Moment

Friday, February 28th

I want to follow my values and align them with my Higher Power.

While working on our recovery, many of us learn how to let go of our past and to prepare for, but not fret about, the future. Our program work often helps us achieve enough spiritual growth to live in the moment. As we work the Steps, we begin to view others and ourselves with perspective and compassion. We become “right-sized,” recognizing an unhealthy ego for the spiritual trap it is.

“Today, my needs are met. I won’t worry about tomorrow until tomorrow. I know that I will be taken care of.”

Focusing on past traumas and future worries is common to most sexual compulsives. Our recovery journey may enable us to change some of the thinking that underlies our harmful sexual behaviors: we do not have to replay those resentments, fears, and harms, nor do we try to control every aspect of living. By placing trust in a Higher Power of our understanding, we can simplify our lives. We can reject perfectionism while maintaining our sobriety and serenity each day.

With our Higher Power and our community of recovering sexual compulsives, we will live more fully and use our energies well.

I’ve learned to live in the now, not relive the past.
