November 24th Meditation: On the Traditions

Sunday, November 24th

SCA’s Twelve Traditions emphasize unity within the fellowship and define its primary purpose.

The Twelve Traditions of SCA follow a set of precepts that AA developed in its first decade, based on the collective experience of its groups and service organizations. SCA adopted these traditions early in our history.

Just as the Twelve Steps help our individual recovery, the Twelve Traditions make our collective recovery possible. By following the Traditions, our members, groups, and service bodies work to maintain our common welfare and allow SCA to thrive in its primary purpose — carrying the message of recovery to the sexual compulsive who still suffers.

With one exception, SCA does not have rules or requirements about membership or how members must work their recovery from sexual compulsion. The one exception is Tradition Three, which states, “The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop having compulsive sex.” We welcome all who seek recovery from sexual compulsion.

Through practicing the Traditions, our fellowship maintains the principle of anonymity and establishes basic guidelines that allow us to safely help each other. Adhering to Tradition Eleven, we carry SCA’s message to others through attraction rather than promotion.

SCA’s spirit as a fellowship is one of non-judgmental acceptance of those seeking recovery from sexual compulsion.
